What is done to ensure that students receive individual attention? Do you have a target student/teacher ratio? We not only hire dedicated classroom teachers, but also teachers trained in specialized subjects such as Science, Music, Art, Latin, Greek, etcetera. This allows to maintain a target student/teacher ratio of 1:12 and also allows us to offer both individualized attention and small tutorial groups. Can homeschool families take advantage of your curriculum offerings? By all means! Families that homeschool their children have found the St. John of Damascus Academy to be a solid partner in their children's education, offering subjects that round out the parents' own subject strengths. We've had homeschooled children participate in several of our courses, including our Latin, Music, Art, History and Physical Education classes. No. All students benefit from the classical education methodology. Our students range from those working below grade level to those working several levels beyond their grade. The classical method challenges students and helps them to take advantage of their natural abilities at each stage of learning and development. What is the Academy's lunch program like? Our 4th to 8th grade students enjoy cooking their lunches with one of our teachers one day a week. On all other days, our students bring their own lunches from home. We stock supplies for the occasional lost or overlooked lunchpail. Snacks are provided daily by parents who share that duty on a rotation basis (two or three weeks out of the year). Do you have a permanent facility? We are currently leasing the property at the Fairview campus, and our lease contains an option for ongoing renewal. With our ongoing vision for growth, as needed, we will continue to seek facilities that will allow us to to do so. How can families afford a private school education? Through the generosity of our donors who believe that the education we offer is superior and worth investment, The St. John of Damascus Academy offers a financial aid program to the families that need assistance in affording education costs. Do you offer afterschool care? Although we do not offer afterschool care, a parent co-op currently tends to some children after school on campus. A professional after-school-care facility is conveniently located nearby on campus as well.
